All about us!: October

October was a challenge to say the least. Marcika had an allergic reaction to a medicine and was in UCSF (University California San Francisco) which a hospital which provides amazing care. She ended up with Stephen Johnson Syndrome with TENs overlapping Syndrome. Our sweet baby girl was so sick, was intubated and still such a fighter. Seeing her so sick was the hardest thing that I have ever experienced. I am grateful to a wonderful Bishop who called and made sure that she was able to get a blessing (Missionaries from the Chinese Mission came and offered her a blessing). All of the prayers on her (our) behalf were felt, I received a strength that was not my own and was able to do all that was needed of me. I am thankful for my knowledge of the Gospel and the peace and comfort that it brought during this trying and difficult time.

The blisters are not inside her mouth yet. They ended up in her mouth, down her throat, in her eyes, and elsewhere (besides all over the outside of her body).

First day intubated.

Unfortunately Mariah was visiting when they had to perform an emergent intubatation.

Because her skin was like that of a burn victim they were not able to secure the breathing tube to her face, so they sewed it (tied it) around her bottom teeth. This worked for a little while, however, even while intubated, she was alert. She was okay with tube, was texting and was okay until she was misunderstood. Then she became agitated and started moving around. At one point almost removing the tube. The wonderful RT staff became engineers and created new ways to safely keep the tube in place, while not causing further damage to her delicate skin.

Finally extubated! She had a few visitors. The Missionaries, Dad, Yamaanibah and her Mom, Bishop and Sister Hanberg, Jesse, Toby, Brittney, Aleah, Grandma Sharon, and Mom (well Mom hardly left her side).
